Before 1939 The Kingdom of Thailand was known as Siam. The bloodless revolution change the Kingdom to constitutional monarchy as of we know today. Literally Thailand mean free land. The original Thailand kingdom was founded in1238. It was heavily influenced by China and India. Thailand is surrounded by exotic country like Laos and Cambodia in the east. From west is Burma or Myanmar and Malaysia in the south. That is a great place to travel around the region.
Thailand has huge number of wat or temple. Chiang Mai is historical city with the famous of Wiang Kum Kam archaeological ruin. Make sure to spare your time to visit the oldest temple of Wat Chiang Mun located at very old city wall build in 1296. The world heritage city of Ayutthaya and Sukhoyhai are also worth to visit.
So Thailand is the land of mystique where modern and traditional authenticity lives together in harmony.
